The Quintessential Elegant Paso Winery
With over 200 wineries in Paso Robles, the options for a tasting adventure are limitless. In planning a recent visit we reached out to our Instagram network to ask for recommendations for lesser-known, boutique wineries. The response was overwhelming but the winery recommended most was Pelletiere Estate.
My research always starts with a visit to the website to learn more. In this case, it was easy “Pelletiere Estate-Paso Robles Elegant Italian Style Wines”. Italian Style Wines - we’re in! And the term elegant was the perfect descriptor, not just for the wines but the winery, rental cottages, and owner, Janis!
The picturesque drive up the road set the stage for what was to come. The tasting room sits atop a hill, overlooking the rolling vineyards. Inside we were warmly greeted by Janis, the owner and were treated to a tour and private tasting of her lovely wines. The property has a rich history in Paso and Janis has not only preserved that but beautifully put her touch on it.
Janis grew up in a traditional Italian home in Chicago and exemplifies Italian ideals of family, love, laughter, food, and wine. As an entrepreneur from the start, she built a successful market research company. When she was ready for a change, she took her knowledge, experience, and dedication to follow her passion for wine, a dream many of us would like to pursue. Her business sense, eye for design and desire to produce wines in the traditional manner are evident everywhere you look - and taste!
After a tour of the tasting room, the two guest cottages, and property, we happily tasted our way through several of the Pelletiere Estate wines. Janis and Winemaker, Amy Butler, truly have a knack for creating wines that are smooth, elegant and true to the varietals as well as terroir in which the grapes are lovingly grown.
Next time we head to Paso our itinerary will include another visit to Pelletiere Estate but this time for a stay in the cottage and a vertical tasting of their Estate Sangiovese.
